Backend and distributed infrastructure

Node.js Developer

Engineer the event-driven services, ingestion gateways and queueing systems that carry every event and every send through the platform.

Remote (India)Full-time

About the role

Every SDK call, every segment evaluation and every message passes through services you will own: the ingestion gateway that validates and deduplicates events, the workers that evaluate segments as events arrive, and the delivery pipeline that applies caps, quiet hours and the blast-radius ceiling before a provider is called.

The services are Node.js and TypeScript on Postgres and Redis, with queues for asynchronous work and signed webhooks out to customer systems. Reliability is the product: a retry must never double-count a purchase, and a broken endpoint must never become a backlog.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimise event ingestion gateways that accept high-throughput HTTP and WebSocket traffic with validation, deduplication and backpressure.
  • Build asynchronous processing pipelines on Redis, BullMQ, Kafka or RabbitMQ, with distributed workers and idempotent jobs.
  • Develop integrations and webhooks with payment gateways, e-commerce platforms, messaging providers and marketing stacks.
  • Maintain latency budgets, thorough test coverage and observability with distributed tracing.

Requirements

  • Three or more years of backend engineering with modern Node.js, TypeScript and asynchronous, event-driven architectures.
  • Deep familiarity with streaming architectures, Redis, message brokers and both relational and document databases.
  • Experience with containers, CI/CD and deploying services on AWS, GCP or edge runtimes.
  • A focus on security, rate limiting, fault tolerance and graceful degradation.

Nice to have

  • Experience integrating push, email, SMS or WhatsApp provider APIs.
  • Familiarity with multi-tenant data isolation and row-level security in Postgres.
  • Prior work on schema enforcement or contract testing in CI.

What we offer

The basics, done properly.

The same for every role. Written down so it can be held to.

  • Remote-first. The team works from wherever it works best, and most communication is written and asynchronous.
  • A learning budget for books, courses and conferences, spent on whatever makes you better at the job.
  • The laptop and peripherals you choose, replaced when they slow you down.
  • Health cover for you and your dependants.
  • An annual offsite where the whole team meets in person.
  • Flexible hours built around the few meetings that need everyone present.

Hiring process

Four steps, no puzzles, and you are paid for the work.

The whole sequence usually runs inside three weeks. Every stage is with an engineer.

  1. 01

    Application

Apply from the role page with a link to something you have built. We read every application and reply to each one.

  2. 02

    Technical conversation

Forty-five minutes with an engineer on the team about systems you have shipped, what broke, and what you would do differently.

  3. 03

    Paid take-home or pairing session

Your choice: a scoped take-home paid at a fixed rate, or a two-hour pairing session on real code from the platform.

  4. 04

    Offer

A written offer with compensation and start date, and a call with the engineers you would work with before you decide.
